June 19 - August 9

"Hit the nail on the head", and read all summer long!  Hard hats, hammers, and measuring tapes are optional.  The blueprint for success is simple.  Stop in the Children's Dept. and join the 2017 Summer Reading Club.  Sign up begins June 19.  Merit stickers and prizes will be awarded all summer long. 

Pre-readers will earn weekly prizes for completing a variety of early literacy activities.  Readers will be given prizes each week as books are recorded in their reading logs.  Each book or 50 pages earns a prize.



David Engel, a.k.a. Dr. Dismantle

Comic entertainer, David Engel, a.k.a. Dr. Dismantle, will kick off the summer festivities on Wednesday, June 21st in the multi-purpose room of the Dogwood Hill School from 2:00-3:00 PM.    Oakland children, ages 4 & up, will enjoy construction dysfunction at it's best!  Eccentric props, magic, bubble play, feats of balance, defiance of gravity, and zany music are hallmarks of this constructive comedy.  "What goes up, must come down!"  Attendees may attend in costume.  *** Parking is LIMITED at Dogwood Hill School *** Please allow extra time to arrive for the 2:00 performance.  Register in person, by phone at 201-337-3742 or online Click Here.  This program is sponsored by the New Friends of the Oakland Public Library.

Paper Airplane Craft
Tuesday, June 27th from 3:45-4:30 PM

Sadie is a registered therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International.  Each child will have about ten minutes to read a favorite story to a dog.  The program will be held in the Library's story gallery.

It's time for a casting call!  The Oakland Public Library Players, a drama club for children, ages 6 & up, are looking for participants for this summer's production.  Children will meet in the Oakland Public Library's gallery from 6:30-7:30 PM on the following dates: Thursdays, June 29th, July 6th, July 13th, and July 20th, and Mondays, July 10th and July 17th.  (Participants must be able to attend each of these sessions, please.)  The Oakland Public Library Players will present their one and only preformance on Monday, July 24th from 8:00 - 8:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall of the Ponds Reformed Church.  Registration begins Tuesday, June 13th.   Register in person, by phone 201-337-3742 or online by Clicking Here.
